When they are old enough to make their own choices/buy their own food, I will of course support them to be individuals & make their own choices. But because of my ethical beliefs, & what I know about how harmful animal foods are, I feel it would be wrong of me to feed my children any different than the way I eat.Charhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03106059136247566288noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4163526565746679920.post-4815889169536262662010-08-28T16:42:57.257-07:002010-08-28T16:42:57.257-07:00I don't let our kids have wheat, dairy, foods ...I don't let our kids have wheat, dairy, foods with dye, no white processed sugar and no nitraits/nitrites. Other than that, I will not have these foods in my house, and will ask babysitters/ family not to give them to my kids.

I won't take my kids to fast food restaurants ever. I also believe that limiting the fast food is a very good idea.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4163526565746679920.post-37971256671463277682010-08-24T09:48:55.494-07:002010-08-24T09:48:55.494-07:00We also have the 80/20 rule. He is allowed treats but understands dessert/cookies/treats are not a everyday thing. Before he was about 1-1.5 years old we were strict, no processed, no sugars. I wanted him to like and get used to good healthy veggies and fruits and alternate foods before he got a love for junk. It works, although we do bribe him with mini marshamallows for potty training :)Pamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4163526565746679920.post-69749106839293037272010-08-24T09:29:38.236-07:002010-08-24T09:29:38.236-07:00I try to go by the 80/20 rule - if he eats healthy...I try to go by the 80/20 rule - if he eats healthy, whole foods 80% of the time, that other 20% isn't going to kill him and will probably teach him a thing or two about how eating processed food feels.

I draw the line at artificial sweeteners, though. I try hard to have him not eat any of those. Although I broke that rule when his favorite babysitter brought over some zero calorie vitamin water drink think for him. *sigh*Deannahttp://themommybowl.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4163526565746679920.post-66234653850242036822010-08-24T09:25:21.089-07:002010-08-24T09:25:21.089-07:00I think when I'm a parent I will try to have m...I think when I'm a parent I will try to have my children eat as many whole foods as possible and avoid processed foods. I know I can't control every single thing that goes into their mouths, but I know I won't keep those things in my home. I also don't want to say any food is "bad" or off limits because I don't want my kids to feel they need to sneak it when they are not with me.Nicolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13236777533457006312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4163526565746679920.post-38138231388973192742010-08-24T09:19:34.636-07:002010-08-24T09:19:34.636-07:00Great article and interesting insights. Growing up...Great article and interesting insights. Growing up we weren't allowed to drink soda except on a special occasion and even then we were only allowed one. I guess that was my mom's way at balance. I'm going to do my best to give my kids healthy foods, but I won't eliminate things just because they aren't the healthiest. I think you need to eat some of the bad, to understand the effect it has on your body.Angelahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13413723085004443174noreply@blogger.com
