Question of the day?

This morning when I opened up facebook… there was an interesting article written regarding what to let your kids eat.

Check it out here

So here is my question of the day.

Are there any foods you don’t (or won’t) let your kids eat?

Feel free to answer even if you are not a parent yet.

I’m curious to know your answers, feel free to leave them on a comment on on facebook!

  1. Great article and interesting insights. Growing up we weren't allowed to drink soda except on a special occasion and even then we were only allowed one. I guess that was my mom's way at balance. I'm going to do my best to give my kids healthy foods, but I won't eliminate things just because they aren't the healthiest. I think you need to eat some of the bad, to understand the effect it has on your body.

  2. I think when I'm a parent I will try to have my children eat as many whole foods as possible and avoid processed foods. I know I can't control every single thing that goes into their mouths, but I know I won't keep those things in my home. I also don't want to say any food is "bad" or off limits because I don't want my kids to feel they need to sneak it when they are not with me.

  3. I try to go by the 80/20 rule - if he eats healthy, whole foods 80% of the time, that other 20% isn't going to kill him and will probably teach him a thing or two about how eating processed food feels.

I draw the line at artificial sweeteners, though. I try hard to have him not eat any of those. Although I broke that rule when his favorite babysitter brought over some zero calorie vitamin water drink think for him. *sigh*

  4. We also have the 80/20 rule. Our son eats very well and very healthy and in turn because we want him to eat so well, we do. He is allowed treats but understands dessert/cookies/treats are not a everyday thing. Before he was about 1-1.5 years old we were strict, no processed, no sugars. I wanted him to like and get used to good healthy veggies and fruits and alternate foods before he got a love for junk. It works, although we do bribe him with mini marshamallows for potty training :)

  5. I don't have kids at this time in my life. I know when I do have kids that I will not allow them to have as much pop as I see kids having. I also believe that limiting the fast food is a very good idea.

  6. Candy, pop, and other treats like that will be OCCASIONAL treats for my children (at birthday parties, or on very special occasions). Other than that, I will not have these foods in my house, and will ask babysitters/ family not to give them to my kids.

I won't take my kids to fast food restaurants ever. If someone else does ONCE IN A WHILE, then fine - but I won't like it :-)

  7. I don't let our kids have wheat, dairy, foods with dye, no white processed sugar and no nitraits/nitrites. As few processed "health" foods as possible.

  8. I don't have kids yet (or plans to have them), but when I do, they won't be eating meat or dairy. When they are old enough to make their own choices/buy their own food, I will of course support them to be individuals & make their own choices. But because of my ethical beliefs, & what I know about how harmful animal foods are, I feel it would be wrong of me to feed my children any different than the way I eat.
