My new best friend!

Good morning!! :)

So last night while analyzing my food intake, I realized I had NO IDEA what the nutritional info was for Nutritional Yeast was!

So I summoned the powers of google and found this!!

What a power house Nutritional yeast (NOOCH) is!

For 2 TBSP it’s 60 calories,  less than 1 gram of fat, 3.9 grams of fibre and 8.34g of protein.  On top of that, it is LOADED with vitamins!!

RedStarYeast

Red Star is the only brand I have found that I like – usually you can get it in bulk at the health food store!!

Now are you wondering what to do with it??!

Garlic Bread (thanks to Jesse @ Vegan Minded for this)

Earth balance butter, garlic and NOOCH

Taste just like the original!

Nachos!!  (I am still perfecting this cheesey recipe for you!)

So far I have been using hummus, nooch, tumeric and garlic powder… mix it all together with some warm water.  Not quite perfect, but still good!! (It killed my very strange McDonalds craving last night – gross I know!)

I’ve also used this mix on my pita pizzas

I also love it on popcorn and eggs…

Christa mentioned on my facebook page that she loves to make “chicken fingers”  here is her recipe!

“Slice some extra firm tofu, dip it in Braggs Liquid Aminos, then into nutritional yeast, then cook in a pan, or bake in the oven. Serve as you would chicken fingers- we dip them in plum sauce. SO GOOD :)”

This stuff is pure goodness! I’m sure there are many other things to do with it, but I am still creating!!

Do you have any yummy Nooch recipes?

Onto Easter – we had a super mellow day.

I cooked a chicken with roasted veggies (again a happy chicken from a local happy chicken brewing farm)

and I boiled up some veggies to make Newfie Mash!

I also whipped up a batch of random cookies.  I totally threw stuff together and it ended in amazing chocolate chip/almond butter/walnut cookies!  (Which are gluten free AND dairy free)

The recipe – which only made 6 big cookies

1/4 cup coconut flour

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup almond butter

1 egg

chocolate chips and walnuts

baked at 350 for about 10 mins!

They were super quick and easy and killed my chocolate craving (since the Easter bunny doesn’t deliver dairy free chocolate!)

What are you growing this year??

Have a great day,

  1. That cheezy sauce looks good! Still searching for something to put on my pizza; maybe that'll do it.

  5. What did you buy for your veggie garden? It's pretty hard for me to grow much... the summers are so hot down here and everything burns quickly if you forget to water it. And indoors, my kitties would have a field day! :)

  6. Aw, I haven't visited in so long - your blog is so pretty & cheery for spring! Makes me smile, especially since it's so dang chilly out still. : )

I'm crazy about nutritional yeast (NOOCH! that's awesome!) on my oven fries. Mine's Red Star Flake Yeast (um, that's the same thing, isn't it??) that I get at Healthyway!

I toss em with cumin, garlic powder, paprika, a little sea salt, and lots of NOOCH. On yam fries, too. Or sweet potato, depending who you ask. I'm talking about the orange ones! It's sooooo good!!

I've put this spice blend on lots of other goodies, too: pretty much any roast veg (Parsnips! YUM!), even on popcorn.

    Thanks for some more ideas!!
